Flexible Leadership 360

The Flexible Leadership 360, for executives and managers, is based on Rick Lepsinger and Gary Yukl’s groundbreaking work, documented in their book, Flexible Leadership: Creating Value by Balancing Multiple Challenges and Choices. The Leadership Survey measures the leader behaviors aligned with three key determinants of organizational performance—Executing Plans and Initiatives, Leading and Managing People, and Adapting and Innovating.

Given that the behaviors required for success are typically different for executives and managers, there are two versions of the instrument. The competencies measured in each instrument are listed below:

Executive 360

Manager 360

  • Customer Focus
  • Personal Leadership
  • Encouraging Continuous Improvement
  • Building Commitment and Collaboration
  • Encouraging Innovation
  • Strategic Thinking
  • Developing Organizational Talent
  • Achieving Business Results
  • Facilitating Change Readiness
  • Change Readiness
  • Encouraging Innovation and Change
  • Building Commitment and Teamwork
  • Evaluating Performance and Solving Problems
  • Developing Others
  • Planning and Clarifying Objectives

The results of these assessments provide leaders with a comprehensive report that outlines their strengths, as well as areas that may not be fully leveraged. These instruments are frequently used in conjunction with our Enhancing Execution workshops where leaders become familiar with the behaviors effective leaders use to enhance organizational performance.  To see a sample report, click here.

OnPoint’s Influence with Impact 360, for anyone who works on a team or needs to work across organizational boundaries, focuses on the behaviors used by the most effective influencers.  The influencing model includes 11 influence tactics:

  • Most Effective: Rational Persuasion, Inspirational Appeals, Consultation, Collaboration

  • Moderately Effective: Apprising, Ingratiating, Personal Appeals, Exchange

  • Least Effective: Legitimating Tactics, Coalition Tactics, Pressure

A groundbreaking research study, published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, demonstrates that OnPoint’s Influence with Impact feedback instrument increases managers’ use of effective influence tactics and results in a positive change in their leadership behavior. To see a sample feedback report click here.

The study also found that leaders perceive feedback to be more useful and easier to apply when it is delivered by a facilitator, rather than through a feedback report alone. Our Influence with Impact Workshop helps managers get the most out of their feedback experience and more successfully transfer learning back to the job.

Customized Surveys

If you already have company-specific competencies, we can develop a Custom Multi-Rater Feedback Survey to help your leaders clarify their strengths and the areas in need of development. We partner with you to identify behavioral examples for each competency or review your existing list of behaviors to ensure they are worded appropriately for a multi-rater feedback questionnaire.  Your items are then loaded onto our Web-based platform, which is used to conduct the survey, and we provide all the administrative support, data analysis, and report preparation.

Leading From a Distance 360

Do your virtual team leaders the characteristics to effectively lead from a distance? The leadership characteristics required for virtual team leaders are different than the skills necessary for traditional face-to-face leadership. OnPoint’s Leading from a Distance 360°, which is based on the characteristics of successful virtual team leaders, provides useful feedback to help team leaders enhance their performance. This online tool can be administered as a self-assessment for the team leader. However, we have found it particularly useful to solicit feedback (through a brief online survey) from team members and/or key stakeholders who work closely with the team. Together, these results provide meaningful information for virtual team leaders to target their performance needs. When this assessment tool is used in conjunction with our Leading Virtual Teams: Best Practices For Managing From a Distance skill building module, it is completed prior to the session to enhance the learning experience.
